Service Officers

Service officers are vital to the success and smooth operation of our NJROTC unit, each with specific responsibilities that ensure the efficient execution of various events and initiatives.

The unit service officer organizes and supervises unit service events and fundraisers, supporting the NJROTC unit’s success.

The community service officer oversees the proper conduct of all community service events, ensuring successful cadet participation.

The school service officer manages all school service events, such as football game shore patrols, to ensure that they are conducted effectively.

The recruiting officer leads the recruitment of new members, ensuring the unit’s growth.

The public affairs officer manages the timely transmission of Cary High NJROTC information to various audiences, ensuring clear communication.

The company guide assists the command master chief in communication and coordination with Platoon Mustering Petty Officers and Guides.

Unit Service Officer: C/CPO Connor Erickson

The Unit Service Officer reports directly to OPS and is responsible for the proper conduct of all Unit Service Events and Fund Raisers. Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  1. Plan, organize and ensure proper documentation of all unit service events.

  2. Ensure that a senior cadet (OIC) is assigned to oversee each event and that the OIC is aware of time line, points of contact, number of cadets expected and required, and type of school service being conducted.

  3. Ensure proper documentation of attendance at each event (Event Tracker.)

  4. In coordination with the Operations Officer and Communications Officer, broadcast unit service events in a timely manner.

  5. Coordinate with the Booster Club POC to ensure proper parent awareness and involvement.

  6. Recommend new fundraising opportunities to the cadet staff, boosters and JROTC instructors.

Community Service Officer: C/ENS Sean Luc Barnes

The Community Service Officer reports directly to OPS and is responsible for the proper conduct of all Community Service Events. Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  1. Plan, organize and ensure proper documentation of all community service events.

  2. Ensure that a senior cadet (OIC) is assigned to oversee each event and that the OIC is aware of time line, points of contact, number of cadets expected and required, and type of community service being conducted.

  3. Ensure proper documentation of attendance at each event (Event Tracker.)

  4. In coordination with the Communications Officer, broadcast community service events in a timely manner.

  5. Coordinate with the Booster Club POC to ensure proper parent awareness and involvement.

  6. Recommend new community service opportunities to the cadet staff, boosters and JROTC instructors.

School Service Officer: C/CPO Anayah Mateo and C/ENS JJ Henderson

The School Service Officer reports directly to OPS and is responsible for the proper conduct of all School Service Events or “Shore Patrols.” Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  1. Plan, organize and ensure proper documentation of all school service events.

  2. Ensure that a senior cadet (OIC) is assigned to oversee each event and that the OIC is aware of time line, points of contact, number of cadets expected and required, and type of school service being conducted.

  3. Ensure proper documentation of attendance at each event (Event Tracker.)

  4. In coordination with the Communications Officer, broadcast school service events in a timely manner.

Recruiting Officer: C/ENS Morgan Slotta

The Recruiting Officer reports directly to the XO and is responsible for the proper recruitment of new members. Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  1. Assist the SNSI and NSI with the recruitment of Middle School Students and get rising freshmen interested in NJROTC.

  2. Coordinate trips to visit Middle Schools and Recruiting Events. 

  3. Recruit members of the High School to join NJROTC.

  4. Work with the PAO to provide information, videos and social media material that is available to interested students.

  5. Promote enthusiasm, patriotism, and pride for the NJROTC unit and increase overall moral.

  6. Work with the Operations Officer, NSI, and SNSI to efficiently coordinate middle school recruitment events.

Public Affairs Officer: C/ENS Jaleah Street

The PAO reports directly to the XO. The Public Affairs Officer is responsible for the timely transmission of Cary High JROTC information to but not limited to, the following:

  1. Seek membership to the school newspaper staff and Yearbook Committee.

  2. Ensure that press releases and/or articles are prepared and submitted to appropriate news media each time an event of interest is scheduled and/or takes place. Media to be considered will include as a minimum local newspapers and the school newspaper.

  3. Arrange for the greatest possible publicity for NJROTC activities including annual inspection, competitions, field meets, drill meets, Change of Command, fund-raisers, social events, and projects.

  4. Ensure that appropriate photographic coverage of all Unit events is obtained.

  5. Work with the communications officer and NJROTC Booster Club to ensure the the unit website is being kept up to date.

  6. Ensure that the NJROTC pages in the yearbook properly reflect the activities of the Cadets by working with the yearbook staff on the layout.

  7. Maintaining the unit picture galleries.

  8. Ensuring unit activities are posted on school activity bulletin boards and are included in the school weekly activity schedule.

  9. Maintain a point of contact listing for all local news media.

  10. Submit to the NJROTC Area 6 Manager any media articles related to the Unit or Cadet.

Company Guide: C/PO1 Jack O’Neal

The  Company Guide is under the direction of the Command Master Chief. The Company Guide will assist and support the Command Master Chief and facilitate communication with all Platoon Mustering Petty Officers and Guides. Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  1. Ensuring that all platoon guides are proficient in guidon drill

  2. Demonstrate high levels of leadership, enthusiasm, performance, academic competence, a positive attitude, and active participation in all areas of NJROTC activities.

  3. Assist squad leaders, guides, MPOs and the Platoon Commanders in order to ensure unit effectiveness.

  4. Assign Cadets (one must be a upper classman) to do Morning Colors at 0715 before school begins.

  5. Lead by example.

  6. Be knowledgeable in all areas of drill, guidon and general knowledge found in the Cadet Field Manual.
