Primary Staff

The Primary Staff consists of key positions that support the unit's operations and ensure smooth functioning.

The Administrative Officer handles personnel functions and reports to the CO and XO.

The Operations Officer is responsible for planning and conducting events, reporting directly to the CO and XO.

The Logistics Officer manages supply-related matters and reports to the NSI for supplies and the CO and XO for military matters.

The Communications Officer ensures timely dissemination of information to cadets, parents, and boosters.

The Training Officer tracks promotions and the progress of extra-curricular teams.

The Weapons Officer oversees the armory's upkeep and inventory, reporting to the XO.

Finally, the First Lieutenant is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of NJROTC spaces, reporting to the XO and NSI.

Administration Officer: C/CPO Sidd Atri

The Administrative Officer is a member of the Company Primary Staff. The ADMIN Officer reports directly to the CO and XO and is responsible for personnel functions, specifically but not limited to:

  1. Have a good working knowledge of the unit's organization and activities, and assisting the SNSI and the NSI with preparation of the unit notices and instructions, personnel list, reports, correspondence, and other unit paperwork as directed.

  2. Use CDMIS to prepare and maintain the unit's personnel files to include all promotions, awards, merits/demerits, and address and telephone numbers and the unit organization board, and assisting the SNSI and NSI with other plan of the week and otherwise ensuring that information flows within the unit.

  3. Track progress of awards and recognition of individual cadets in the unit.

  4. Train Admin Petty Officers in each platoon.

  5. Maintain the minutes of all staff meetings.

  6. Lead by example.

  7. Must maintain high proficiency in all areas of the NJROTC program including military drill and leadership capability.

Operations Officer: C/ENS Ky Snyder

The Operations Officer is a member of the Company Primary Staff. The OPS officer reports directly to the CO and XO and is responsible for the planning, conduct and debrief/review of all events. Specifically, the OPS officer is responsible for:

  1. Coordinate all scheduled Unit activities to ensure that the events happen according to plan. 

  2. Maintain Operations Calendar and Practice Calendar and ensure that the information contained in each is accurate and properly communicated to team commanders, OICs and Service Officers.

  3. Assisting with trip planning.

  4. Works hand with the Training Officer to make sure all teams are properly trained.

  5. Coordinate any JROTC competition hosted by Cary High School with the help of the corresponding Team Commander(s).

  6. Plans and directs service events with support from Community Service Officer, School Service Officer and Unit Service Officer. 

  7. Responsible for preparation and performance of all teams, especially for Drill Meets.

  8. Lead by example.

  9. Must maintain a 2.5 GPA or higher and an “A” in Naval Science.

  10. Must maintain high proficiency in all areas of the NJROTC program including drill and leadership capability.

Logistics Officer: C/SCPO Caleb Kohn and C/PO2 Julie Gonzalez

The Logistics Officer is a member of the Company Primary Staff. He/she reports directly to the NSI for supply related matters and to the CO and XO for military matters. Specific responsibilities of this billet include:

  1. Maintaining the Supply room in a secure, neat, and orderly manner.

  2. The issuing, receipt, storage, inventory and accounting of unit uniforms and organizational materials.

  3. Assisting with storage and accounting of unit equipment.

  4. Supervise and train the Supply Staff and Supply Petty Officers in each platoon.

  5. Must maintain a 2.5 GPA or higher and at least an “A” in Naval Science.

  6. Responsible for the integrity of the Supply Spaces.

  7. Lead by example.

  8. Must maintain high proficiency in all areas of the NJROTC program including military drill and leadership capability.

Communications Officer: C/SCPO Chelsea Martin

The Communications Officer is a member of the Company Primary Staff. The Training Officer reports to the CO and XO. The Communications Officer is responsible for the timely transmission of Cary High JROTC information to cadets, parents and boosters through calendars, web applications and other means. Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  1. Establish a system that will ensure positive contact by a PAO member with each NJROTC group likely to have newsworthy activities.

  2. Ensure to keep the Platoon Notebook up-to-date to ensure all staff members are equally aware of the previous staff meetings and decisions.

  3. Establish communications with parents through publication and distribution of a periodic newsletter or newspaper to be published at least once per school quarter.

  4. Ensure that fund-raising activities sponsored by the Unit or the NJROTC Booster Association are given appropriate support and publicity.

  5. Assist the NJROTC Booster Club and PAO in maintaining the unit’s website.

  6. Maintain the school marquee and provide NJROTC events schedule to Cary Website Coordinator.

  7. When directed train and maintain Communications Petty Officers in each platoon.

Training Officer: C/SCPO Prasiddhi Shrestha

The Training Officer is a member of the Company Primary Staff. The Training Officer reports to the CO and XO. The Training Officer tracks promotions and the promotion process for all cadets. Additionally, the Training Officer is responsible for tracking the progress of all extra-curricular teams to ensure optimal training and to provide Platoon Leadership with training expectations for weekly drill and military knowledge.  Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  1. Track promotions and promotion process of individual cadets.

  2. Maintain advancement records on each Cadet in the Unit using the Advancement sheet (located at the end of this handbook).

  3. Maintain logs and assist Cadets in tracking their advancement points using the Point Log sheet (located at the end of this handbook).

  4. Working with team commanders and assistant commanders to keep team operations running smoothly.

  5. Notifying the team commanders of all team competitions, special dates, etc.

  6. Aid OPS in tasks concerning individual cadets.

  7. Lead by example.

  8. Must maintain a 2.5 GPA or higher and at least an “A” in Naval Science.

  9. Perform the Operations Officer's job in his/her absence.

  10. Must maintain a high proficiency in all area of the NJROTC program including drill and leadership capability.

Weapons Officer: C/PO2 Ethan Copenhaver

The Ordnance Officer is in charge of the armory and is responsible for the upkeep and inventory of the equipment in the armory and gun racks.  He/she reports to the XO for, but not limited to, the following:

  1. Keeping an updated inventory of all Armory equipment.

  2. Keeping an updated Armory Log of all equipment used, when used, and by whom (the class leader of each class will fill out the appropriate information when the class uses the equipment).

  3. Ensuring that the Armory equipment is always clean and ready for use. If a piece of equipment is malfunctioned, the Ordnance Officer reports to the NSI what needs to be fixed so that parts can be ordered and records the malfunction in the Armory Log.

  4. Lead by example.

  5. Must maintain a 2.5 GPA or higher and at least an “A” in Naval Science.

  6. Must maintain high proficiency in all areas of the NJROTC program including military drill and leadership capability.

1st Lieutenant: C/CPO Jessica Talley

Reports directly to the XO and the NSI. Responsible for cleaning of all NJROTC spaces which includes emptying of the garbage cans, cleaning whiteboards, and sweeping and mopping of the decks.

  1. Conducts a field day of all JROTC instructional spaces and preparation for zone inspection of the spaces. This includes sweeping, mopping, waxing, and buffing of all decks.

  2. Removal of all furniture from the spaces prior to conducting a field day 

  3. Maintain a minimum staff of six cadets to help assist with the assigned duty.

  4. Lead by example.

  5. Must maintain a 2.5 GPA or higher and at least an “A” in Naval Science.

  6. Must maintain high proficiency in all areas of the NJROTC program including military drill and leadership capability.
